Volume 2, Issue 7

What is YOUR coolest beach experience? We have taken a little poll here at Prince Resort and find, so far, that everyone has a different tale, depending on personal circumstances, but most guests agree that the key experience for them is simply to be here at the beach! As Cherry Grove Pier's wise old Pete the Pelican once said, sometimes the simplest things are the best. Check out our new web cam link!

Some guests come for the first time, especially for events such as weddings and family reunions. In addition to the beach, they marvel at the amazing combination of professionalism with casualness. How great to have a special event or even a simple vacation handled by a professional hospitality team as we have at Prince, ensuring that everything is well-cared for (whether it is catered, organized, or just happens) At the same time, there they are, comfortable, laid-back, bare-foot, living the casual beach life in flip-flops and colorful clothing. How delightful is that!

This year's returning guests noticed the improvements, not only to the look of Prince (for example, freshly painted and spruced up), but also to the quality of its operation (for example, its wonderful new chef in 3500 Ocean Grill). Then, there are the new additions around town, too, to catch the eye of people familiar with our area. The Main Street Connector, a highway from the beach along Main Street in North Myrtle Beach westward to Highway 31, is nearly complete and due to open in August, linking vehicles to points south and north. Another new addition here at the beach is the August 1st opening of O D Pavilion, an amusement park located at the Horseshoe at Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. Rides, games, food, fun are all part of this new addition to vacation here at the beach, and you can find out more by logging on to www.odpavilion.com. Of course, close by the O D Pavilion, the "Hippo," a 3-story tall inflatable water slide right on the beach between 1st and 2nd Avenues South, continues to make its gleeful presence known.

So, if you have been delaying a summer getaway, now is the time to break away from your home routine and come to the beach. This year especially, we have been able to offer amazing price advantages, some real deals that help to maintain the summertime budget, so we encourage you to go online at www.PrinceResortOnline.com for the latest information.

By taking your vacation in this second half of the summer, you save money in many other ways, too. For example South Carolina's special tax-free weekend from August 7 to 9 (for details see www.sctax.org) saves money on buying essentials for the school and business year ahead. We hope that you will reap those benefits here along the Grand Strand, and, of course, planning ahead saves money, so with only a few weeks remaining in the summer, golfers are planning their fall outings, booking early to book the courses they want.

May you have a wonderful remainder of Summer '09! We hope to see you soon!

Your friends at Prince Resort!

Beach Adventures On and Around Prince Resort and The Cherry Grove Pier

Beach adventures come in all sizes and shapes. Here are a few around our end of the Grand Strand:
  • All summer long student representatives of the American Hospitality Academy have worked hard to create entertaining and purposeful adventurous activities on the beach and by the pool for our guests, in particular the younger set. So far this summer the most popular activity has been the pool games (164 participants as of June). The shark tooth searches ranked number two in popularity. Then, in third place, beach Olympics, scavenger hunts, water aerobics, and tie-dyed shirts with numbers each in the 30's. July 4th had 69 participants on that day.

  • Guests love walking out on the boardwalk of the Pier to sightsee, catch fish, have a picnic, or just hang out, talking with the locals who go there on a regular basis. As is typical with the sport of fishing, active and quiet days alternate. For a while eager anglers hurried to catch the spots, running for a while during the last part of June and earlier this month.

  • Nearby, new additions to the North Myrtle Beach shoreline include the Ocean Drive ("OD") Pavilion, an exciting new amusement park opening August 1st, and a waterslide at 1st Street called the "Hippo," now open. Kids of all ages will delight in these amusements that stay open after dark. Both the O D Pavilion (located between 1st and 2nd Streets South at the Horseshoe off Main Street) and "The Hippo" are priced on a per-ride basis with no charge at all to wander around and marvel at the lights, the color, and the fun that everyone is having.

  • From now through Labor Day, save money on local entertainment. Here are some great deals: The Alabama Theatre - free tickets to children (16-under, Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays) with a paying adult (see details at the web site www.alabama-theatre.com/06/SpecialsDiscounts.html). Legends in Concert features free children's tickets (ages 16 and under, 2 per paying adult) (see website for details: www.LegendsinConcert.com) Freestyle Music Park has eye-popping rides and entertainment all through the summer with a "buy one-get one free" deal for tickets purchased before 4 pm (see details at their web site www.FreeStyleMusicPark.com)

  • Noted on the calendar is the August 7-9 weekend, a special tax-free three days (for details see www.sctax.org) when everyone can save on needed items for the school year. Take advantage of this opportunity to get what you need at lower cost. Of course, if you book at Prince Resort during your shopping trip, check with us for cost savings. That would make your last-of-summer fling so satisfying!

  • Also coming up, the fall '09 golf season. Golfers are booking tee times now. All of our packages feature advantages for the golf traveler. Consider including the Burroughs and Chapin Package (includes Grande Dunes, Tidewater, Myrtlewood Palmetto and Pine Hills, Meadowlands, Farmstead, and River Hills Golf and Country Club) and Myrtle Beach National Package (includes Aberdeen, The Long Bay Club, SouthCreek and West Course at Myrtle Beach National, Litchfield Country Club, Waterway Hills, River Club, Willbrook Plantation, and the ever-popular King's North). Both have the design and panorama to take any golfer's breath away, plus a cost savings. Contact our web site at www.MyrtleBeachSeasideResorts.com for details.

The summer continues in full swing here at Prince Resort, so if you have not already enjoyed a beach get-away to tide you over through the long, cold winter ahead, now is the time to book reservations, especially since availability still exists before school begins.

Step Into the Fabulous Culinary World of 3500 Ocean Grill with Chef Steve Mitchell

At your next scheduled stay here at Prince Resort, make it a point to enjoy an oceanfront dinner at 3500. Sample for yourself one of Chef Steve's creations; you'll come back for more culinary adventures!

Prince Resort's new chef Steven Mitchell credits an array of influences for his unique style of culinary creations. His early influence in their realm of food came from watching his Sicilian grandmother make eggplant parmesan and chicken cacciatore. Later, as an adult, he trained with some of the best chefs in New York's finest Asian restaurants, later moving to south Florida where he learned the intricacies of fresh seafood to experiencing direct influences of the Caribbean islands and Cuba. These and many other influences have resulted in Chef Steve's abilities to make taste happen in a most unique and delectable way.

Chef Steve came on the restaurant industry's "radar" when he served as one of the opening chefs at Southern Market in Myrtle Beach where the concept was to add a gourmet flair to Southern classics. Now, as a member of the 3500 team, he mingles his experience, skills, and culinary education to create what he calls the "wow" factor for all facets of 3500 - "happy hour" appetizers, entrees, banquet events, and many other occasions when people want good food!

Go online to Prince Resort's 3500 Ocean Grill Restaurant for a view of the menu and a printable dinner coupon.

July's Featured Recipe - Grilled Marinated Shrimp

Grilling is a year-round activity here in the South, but during the summer cooking out-of-doors helps reduce heat in the kitchen, plus grilled food tastes so good, too. Here is a deliciously different recipe for our area's shrimp (find freshly caught shrimp at the Little River marina or most seafood stores in Cherry Grove).

INGREDIENTS
  • 3/4 cup thawed orange juice concentrate
  • 1 tablespoon brown mustard
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 3/4 cup chili sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, mashed
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 10 strips smoked bacon
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 20 extra large fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined

DIRECTIONS:

  • Combine all ingredients except the bacon and shrimp.
  • Simmer sauce gently for 20 minutes. Cool, cover and refrigerate.
  • Cook the bacon until fat is clear. Cool and cut pieces in half.
  • Wrap each shrimp in a bacon slice. Secure each with a wooden pick.
  • Grill or broil the wrapped shrimp until the bacon is crispy and the shrimp is pink
  • During grilling, baste with barbecue sauce. Continue cooking until shrimp are pink and opaque.
  • Serve warm, either alone with a salad, with fresh crusty French bread, or with your favorite pasta.

Guest Comments

Guests write to us, mostly by email, to tell us what they think of this newsletter, but mostly to tell us about their recent stay at Prince Resort. We learn about their experiences, adventures, and preferences in vacationing from these messages, and sometimes their information helps us to make things even better for future guests. Here are some of the recent emails:

Just wanted to complement you and the staff at The Prince Resort. We stayed there this past weekend and had a great time! Your place is awesome! Very clean and safe. My hat's off to the entire staff. Good Job! Can't wait to go back! This is a well-run hotel; our stay was flawless! First one in MB ever! I work for a very demanding company that expects nothing but the best from me, and it's good to know there are others out there doing the same.

Our stay [at Prince Resort] was Great!!! I do think this was the best family vacation we've had. Thank you for a wonderful time....
Email as a Prince online comment from Blackwelder Family, NC, staying 06.18-21.09

We would like to thank you all for helping to make our wedding day so special. Your genuine courtesy did not go unnoticed. We will recommend your facility to anyone, and we definitely will be back for a visit. Thanks so much.
Handwritten note from guests R and B Jackson, 05.16.09.

Had an Excellent stay. Was the best hotel my wife has ever stayed and was as nice as Disney's Boardwalk Villas at Walt Disney World.
Email as a Prince online comment from Vaught Family, 07.08.09.

This was our second stay at the Prince Resort. The first time was 05/09. We love it so much that we decided to come back again for July 4th 09. The hotel rooms are very clean and well maintained. The hotel staff has to be the friendliest I have ever encountered at Myrtle Beach. From our balcony we had a perfect seat for the fireworks at the pier. No fighting traffic. I will definitely make this my 1st choice in hotels when visiting Myrtle Beach. We come down 3-4 times a year.
Email as a Prince online comment from Cecil family, 07.08.09.

This was a family outing; everything was terrific. This was our first visit to Cherry Grove. We could have stayed for a month. Clean. Friendly staff. I would recommend the Prince Resort to everyone.
Email from newsletter response from the Barfield Family, 07.04.09.

The condo was very clean. The carpet needed to be cleaned; however, it was not too bad considering the constant wear and tear on the units. The staff are exceptionally nice and helpful. We were walk-ins the day we arrived; we had stayed there last year for a week. We will definitely return to the Prince Resort. We enjoyed the amenities and the convenience of the location. We stayed in the ocean front building the first time we were there. We stayed in the building across the street last weekend. We will definitely stay in "that" building again. We loved the convenience of the parking and the pools.
Email to Prince Resort online from Cline Family, 06.24.09.

Wonderful visit. First time our grown children and their families stayed at Prince Resort. Everyone agreed with us - it's the best!!!!
Email to Prince Resort online from the Shirley family, 06.19.09.

Thank you so much for the Chronicle. It provides us with all types of information that is helpful when planning a trip to the beach. My husband and I have been to the Prince three times and can't wait to bring our family in June. We were there the first week you opened and actually got to watch the pools being formed and poured from our ocean front balcony. What a delightful and informative experience!
Email from newsletter response from the McAulay, 05.28.09.

This was the first time I visited Myrtle Beach and your resort made my stay very pleasant. Thank you all for allowing me to have an awesome stay with my family at the beach. I will differently stay at the Prince Resort again and again.

Fun Facts

Most women do NOT want an honest answer to the question, 'How do I look?'

On the golf course, a foursome of women players moves along faster during the game of golf than does a foursome of men, on average!

Women's golf clubs are generally an inch shorter than men's clubs.

Women players tend to be more courteous on the golf course than men.

Women arrive at a golf course prepared to play the entire game of golf! They tend to have enough golf balls, divot tools, tees. They rarely leave behind their belongings on the green when moving from hole to hole. The "stuff" in the "lost-and-found" box in the pro shop generally belongs to men.

Women tend to come properly dressed to play the game and adhere to dress code regulations.

Women tend to drink less alcohol on the course, create fewer scenes if things do not go their way. If they do have too much to drink, they tend not to focus attention on themselves.

The two highest IQ's ever recorded (on a standard test) both belong to women.

When a woman answers "I'm fine" after a few seconds' lapse, she is not actually fine.

The average number of items in a typical woman's home bathroom is 437. A man would not be able to identify most of these items.

If a woman goes on a seven-day trip she'll pack 21 outfits because she doesn't know what she'll feel like wearing each day.

If a man goes on a seven-day trip, he'll pack five days worth of clothes and will wear some of the same items twice.

When four or more women get together, they talk about men. When four or more men get together, they talk about sports.

If a man prepares dinner for his date and makes a salad with 3 or more types of lettuce, then (according to dating experts) he is serious about this relationship.

Impulse-buying is not typically a male thing to do. Men rarely call the Home Shopping Network.

Men like to barbecue because danger is involved.

Men are generally confident people, so confident that when they watch sports on television, they concentrate intently in order to provide assistance to their team. If that team is in trouble, they coach the players as if being in the same room with them.

Men forget most things. Women remember everything. That's why men need instant replays in sports. By the end of the play, they've already forgotten what happened.

Men love to be the first to read the newspaper in the morning.

Men's shirts have the buttons on the right, but women's shirts have the buttons on the left.
