September
2009 Volume 2, Issue 9
The end of August brought us a gradual but noticeable
switch from hot, steamy days to crisp (but warm) days and temperate,
comfortable nights. Slowly, the days now grow shorter with sunset
around 7 PM, but the cool, comfortable air enables us to enjoy more
of every hour during the days and nights. Those whose summer
vacation extended through Labor Day have found renewed invigoration
with the seasonal changes, but yet the air and water temperature are
still warm enough to allow playing in the surf and wearing summer
clothes.
Rather than activities diminishing, we find that
the list of events and things to do grows longer with each passing
day. For example, fishing on The Cherry Grove Pier, in particular
fishing for King and Spanish mackerel which lurk near the beaches
and just over the reefs, is fun to do, as well as fun to watch. Just
today something called a "spinner" shark jumped up in front of one
fisherman on the pier. At first he thought he had really caught a
prize, but the fish spun around, flipped his tail, and easily
separated himself from the hook before diving back into the surf,
now detached from the line. Anglers, be sure to bring your special
lures for an array of fish that are plentiful around the off shore
reefs, too, and stay in tune with up-to-the-minute fishing trends by
logging online to the Cherry Grove Pier web site.
Additionally, join avid golfers here along the Grand Strand
for challenging rounds of golf on our premier courses. Our fall golf
packages offer fabulous discounts at area golf courses that offer
excitement for all levels of golfers. Give us a call at 800.682.5699
or log onto our web site at www.MyrtleBeachGolf.net to explore the
possibilities in enjoying our coastal golf!
Hoping to see
you soon!
Your friends at Prince Resort!
Summer Activities for Children of All Ages
American Hospitality Academy's efforts in engaging
Prince guests in fun activities picked up momentum during the latter
parts of the summer season. In total, participation reached
approximately 700, and our guests enjoyed pool games, water-balloon
tossing, shark-tooth searches, and tie-dyeing shirts. Other fun came
from beach soccer, scavenger hunt, and seaside darts. Though the
organized activities might have ended, why not bring friends and
family here to the beach for your own game of beach volleyball or
bocce ball!
Prince's Wellness Program
Without naming
names, we want to commend the staff winner of the August weigh-in
whose total body fat percentage loss was 3.51%, yielding her a
reward of $233.00 for her weight-loss efforts. Congratulations!
The weigh-ins continue weekly, with cash prizes awarded
monthly, and as a team, we have lost nearly 30 pounds collectively
thus far with a goal toward establishing good habits in exercising
and eating before we reach the holiday season. Also, with the cold
and flu season upon us, being healthy is especially important. In
fact, the management of Myrtle Beach Seaside Resorts is making
arrangements now to have a flu vaccine clinic held at one of the
sister properties to help as many people, guests and employees
inoculate against the regular strain of flu.
Here at Prince
Resort, we remind ourselves and everyone to help keep upper
respiratory problems to a minimum this year by following some simple
procedures:
- Wash hands often
- Avoid close contact.
- Avoid spreading germs. Keep hands away from your eyes, nose,
and mouth.
- If you are sneezing and coughing, cover your mouth and nose
- Practice good health habits (eat beneficial foods, get enough
sleep, manage stress, etc.)
To your good health, everyone!
The Culinary World of 3500 Ocean
Grill
Some of the new initiatives at our
3500 restaurant include the happy hour
held from 5 PM to 7 PM, overlooking the sparkling waters of the
Atlantic Ocean. Customers enjoy appetizers such as spicy jalapeño
poppers, succulent popcorn shrimp, and flavorful hot wings
(Note: the insider's word is that they are
GOOD, too!). Whether you are just passing through our area or on an
extended stay for the winter, why not stop in, have a chat with our
staff and guests, and relax for a while.
Another flavorful
event at 3500 is the feast planned for
Thanksgiving. The menu tempts all who enjoy eating the traditional
holiday dishes (click
here to see menu). In fact, you might give serious thought to
giving up the role of "cook" this year to come to the beach,
instead, and let us take on all the stress and strain of preparing
this special banquet for your family and friends.
If you
seek a special restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries, bridal
banquets and other major events in life, remember to include
3500 Ocean Grill. Reservations and
planning ahead are encouraged, of course, but we can turn an
ordinary day into a special day with a few hours' notice.
Featured Recipe - Roasted Squash and Onions
Autumn is squash season, but these golden beauties have
been in the grocery produce section all summer long and will
continue. Try this delicious yellow squash dish with the smallest
that you can find because they are the most tender and flavorful.
This traditional Southern-style side dish is simple to put together,
simple to cook, and yet evokes such deep fond memories in those who
grew up with it in their families. Delicious, nutritious, and
colorful - perfect for transition from summer to fall.
INGREDIENTS
- about 2 small to medium yellow summer squash per person
- 1/2 small onion per person
- freshly ground black pepper
- sea salt
DIRECTIONS:
- Preheat oven to 425F
- Lightly spray a baking sheet with canola or olive oil. Trim
the ends of the squash, cut off the slender necks, and slice the
necks in half, lengthwise. Then slice each squash into lengthwise
slices, about 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick. Lay the slices on the cooking
sheet in a single layer.
- Trim the ends of the onion and peel it. Cut it in half down
through the top and place each half cut-side down on a cutting
board. Slice into thin wedges. Separate the layers of the onions
and sprinkle them over the squash. Bake for about 15 minutes,
until bottoms of squash begin to brown. Sprinkle with pepper and
salt, turn each slice over, and bake until bottoms of squash are
browned, about 15 minutes more. Serve immediately, hot out of the
oven.

We just
wanted to say how very pleased we were with our choice of resorts
for our mini vacation to Myrtle Beach. We found Prince Resort
online, and to our pleasure it was everything we hoped for. The
staff was very friendly and helpful. We plan to return and stay
longer next time. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.

The first week in June my wife and I visited the
resort (the north Tower, end room, sixth floor). Our three
granddaughters were with us. The best place we have stayed in years
after telling friends and family who in fact subsequently stayed
there. I returned with my son who ended his trip to New England
[with a stay] at Prince Resort this July. My wife intends to return
this fall to spend a few days. Thank you for being
there,,,,,
