August
2009 Volume 2, Issue 8
Have you glanced at the calendar lately?
Where did the summer go? Though we are technically still
in August, Labor Day is only a couple of weeks away, and
that means that preparations for the Thanksgiving and
Christmas holiday are sure to follow.
If you
were able to take a much-needed summer vacation this
year, a break from the unusual challenges that 2009
brought with it, we want to thank you for choosing our
part of the beach. Some vacationers discovered us for
the first time when they down-shifted from a more global
get-away to exotic locations in favor of a trip to South
Carolina, to Prince Resort. We are so glad to meet you
and invite you to come back soon!
For those who
specifically intended to come to Prince, whether for
weddings and family reunions or as their regularly
scheduled summer vacation, much appreciation for your
continued trust in our ability to make yours the BEST
vacation ever, year after year.
The year
actually offered some cost savings! Throughout the
summer months we were able to offer a number of
cost-savings deals, advertised in e-notices and through
various travel media. In addition to our own discounts,
the price of gasoline surprised everyone. Usually
gasoline runs higher in summer, but this year's prices
held steady at a relatively moderate level compared with
what they were earlier this year when they went
sky-rocketed to over $4/gallon. Other price cuts
occurred in entertainment around our area. The "kids
free" deal, for instance, at The Alabama Theatre and
Legends in Concert, both of which end after Labor Day,
brought a lot of families great joy in being able to see
a live show together. Others, such as the new Freestyle
Music Park featured specially slashed prices starting
with their July 4th extravaganza and then continuing
with other price cuts later in the summer.
Save
money this fall with our Thanksgiving specials and
Christmas holiday get-aways. How about an off-season
fall get-away to the beach, especially if you had no
chance at a summer vacation at all! Bring your golf
clubs and enjoy our temperate fall weather, plus ask us
about some "terrific" savings in our newest deal called
"Terrific Tuesday."
Looking for you here at the
beach!
Happy Labor Day, everyone! Here we go
into the fall season!
Your friends at
Prince Resort!
Wellness Program at Prince Resort
Employees at Prince Resort are weighing in for
wellness and self-improvement — good for themselves and
good for business at Prince Resort, in part because of
fewer "sick" days. Each person in this new program has
his or her own reasons to find better health through
weight loss, but no matter what the reason, these 12
dedicated people are hard at work to lose body weight by
the end of December.
These employees at Prince
are vying to be our "biggest losers," beginning with the
weekly weigh-in each week. The program's director (also
a member) collects a weekly "membership" fee of $5, and
at each week's weight-in session, conducted privately
with only the director, anyone who has gained must
forfeit $1 per pound over the starting weight. Then, at
month's end, another weigh-in determines the member who
has the highest percentage of weight loss for that month
wins the money for that month.
With only a few
weeks into the program, the total weight lost thus far
is 23.4 pounds. Of course, we won't
name names, but some members are doing quite well and
others are still finding their own personal pace in this
contest.
Future newsletters through December
will include updates of the combined pounds lost. The
January newsletter will feature the final total. Good
luck, Wellness Program members!
Prince Resort and The Cherry Grove Pier Help
the Community
Members of the staff at Prince Resort and
The Cherry Grove Pier collected plastic bottle caps
toward buying a chemotherapy treatment for a member of
our community, a middle-schooler who is suffering from
leukemia. These efforts amounted to buying one treatment
for this child.
Instrumental in arranging the
collection was Annie Dobson with the help of Ronnie
Goodwin, both shown here. Suzanne Fair of Prince, shown
with the container, collected the donations in her
office over several months and then at the appointed
time delivered them to the community coordinator who saw
to it that the bottle caps translated into medical help.
Thank you to everyone, staff and guests, who
helped build up the collection of plastic caps!

Featured Recipe -
Even if you enjoy fried
foods, summertime frying can be messy, hot, and smelly.
Remember your childhood with these delicious baked onion
rings which is a composite recipe in part from
www.Cooks.com and also from www.EverydayFood.com - June
'09 edition.
Preface: Before beginning the food
preparation, coat the surface of the baking sheet with
olive oil and put it in the oven as you pre-heat. When
the onion rings are prepared, place them on the heated
baking sheet to sizzle as you then place the baking
sheet in the oven to cook the rings.
Serving
size of this dish is 4. Goes well with grilled
hamburger, salads, and almost everything else that we
enjoy in summer:
INGREDIENTS
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper or cayenne pepper (suit
to taste)
- 1/2 large sweet yellow onion, cut into thick rings
- 1/3 cup dry bread crumbs
DIRECTIONS:
- Pre-heat oven to 450 degrees.
- Coat baking sheet with thin layer of olive oil (or
use silicone non-stick baking sheet)
- Combine egg white, salt, and pepper in bowl. Mix
together well.
- Dip onion rings into egg mixture.
- Coat each ring with bread crumbs.
- Place each ring in a single layer on the baking
sheet
- Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes.
- Turn each ring and bake another 5 minutes or until
golden brown.
- Serve immediately.
Groups Staying with Us at Prince Resort
Imagine your group here at Prince, relaxing
by day (perhaps enjoying fishing on The Cherry Grove
Pier or a photo session with family in front of the blue
ocean), then by night strolling the water's edge or
delighting in the many entertainment venues around town.
As you stroll in to 3500 for a banquet
dinner overlooking the majestic Atlantic Ocean, pause to
glance out the picture window, as far as you can see!
Later, enjoy an evening's chat in the lounge of
3500, perhaps meeting new people and exchanging
ideas of what to see and do in the area. We invite
you to think of ways that your family or special
group would enjoy spending time at the beach. Here is a
response from a wedding group who stayed here earlier in
the summer:
May
16, 2009 RE: The Freeman/Jackson
Wedding
To all staff: We would like to
thank you all for helping to make our wedding day
so special. Your genuine courtesy did not go
unnoticed. We will recommend your facility to
anyone, and we definitely will be back for a
visit.
Thanks so much, Ryan and

Thank you to everyone who wrote to us with
your remarks and suggestions. Here are a few over the
past several weeks:
I would like to
thank Robert in Engineering for his excellent service.
He was so nice and helpful. After checking in, the AC in
our unit was frozen up and would not cool. Robert was
right there after calling the front desk. He found the
problem right away and assisted us with finding another
unit. Way to go Robert!!!! The entire staff at the
Prince Resort was outstanding. Keep up the good
work! Email to Prince Resort from Soots

Just writing to
say thanks for signing me up for the Prince newsletter.
My family and I are actually coming to stay at the
Prince next week (Aug 4,5,6) and we look forward to it.
This will be our third year staying at the Prince. It is
a very nice, clean, friendly resort. I especially love
that it's right on the pier and I enjoy the sounds of
the music filtering through the air at night while we
sit on the balcony. Look forward to seeing you!

Everyone was smiling and
welcoming. I was pleasantly surprised one morning when
we returned to our room, and the dishes had been washed.
I did not expect that service. Thank you, what a
wonderful touch! :-) Email to Prince

Our stay at the Prince Resort Tower 1
was wonderful! Our family had not had a vacation in over
7 years and was finally able to have one this year. The
Prince Resort was very clean and comfortable and the
staff was exceptionally nice. We felt as if we were at
home and we plan to return next year. The breakfast
buffet was great and so was Clayton, Michelle, Emily,
and Trace. We really enjoyed the music from the pier.
Being on the 3rd floor was great for listening to the
music from the balcony, watching our kids in the pool,
and all of the beach and pier activity. However, it was
very quiet and peaceful place to vacation. Thank you
very much for making our 1st vacation in 7 years one to
remember! Email to Prince Resort from

Fun Facts
The Rees Jones golf course at the Sea Trail
Plantation in Sunset Beach, NC, is the longest of the
plantation's three courses, and some say the hardest.
The Jones course has water, but most of it is in the
form of small ponds.
At the Jones course at Sea Trail, most of the more
difficult holes come in bunches. Try the two holes,
numbers 6 and 7, on the front nine. The first is a
400-yard par 4 with water along the length of the left
fairway, and the second is a 440-yarder with a tight
landing area.
The 8th, 9th, 16th, 17th, and 18th holes of Glen
Dornoch in Little River, SC, play towards or along the
Intracoastal Waterway, providing golfers with a
beautiful backdrop filled with passing ships and bright
blue water.
Glen Dornoch is not a course to use for warm-ups as
it will challenge golfers with breezes, bunkers,
wetlands, and design. Make no mistake that the course is
fun, just challenging, considered by some pro's as a
"placement" golf course.
The par-4 6th hole at Glen Dornoch is a two-tier
green, draped over nearly 4 feet of elevation change.
Expect a 3-putt there.
Surviving Glen Dornoch means getting the ball in the
air and safely beyond the grasp of the ubiquitous
wetlands.
Players form a love/hate relationship with Glen
Dornoch's 16th hole. It begins from an elevated tee box
with a view straight out to the Intracoastal Waterway.
The fairway dives down into a ravine approximately 253
yards from the back tees. The approach shot goes to a
narrow green with rocks, trees, and water to the right.
Playing The Thistle at Sunset Beach, NC, golfers
find stunning Lowcountry characteristics fused with a
Scottish-like coast. Always in great condition, The
Thistle has an open layout with ample air circulation to
keep the greens and fairways dry and firm. The second
hole on the south nine requires an approach shot over
water to an island green.
At The Thistle, the new south nine holes contain
more risk/reward opportunities than the other sets of
nine do. First-time players might overlook the need for
strategic maneuvers, not a good idea with this course.
The best example is the par 5 4th hole which is
543-yards from the back tees, 475-yards from the middle
tees, and requires a tee shot over a large pond to the
right.
The most talked about hole at The Thistle is south
nine's par-3 9th hole. Its green sits atop a giant mound
with two deep pot bunkers in the front. The front and
right side of the hole is protected by water, and the
tee shot is uphill, usually into the wind. This par-3
can hold its own with any of the other courses, says
Thistle's golf director Dan Oschmann. |
