September 2008                                                                                                                              Volume 1, Issue 2

The beginning of the fall season is only days away on the calendar. September 22nd will be the official beginning of cooler temperatures and shorter days, but already we feel the change in the winds and intensity of the sun. Hazy daylight is being replaced by clearer sunlight, puffy white clouds, and cobalt-blue skies. Warm water and warm air still comfort all who dip their toes in the surf, but the subtle change from intense heat to gentle climate is taking place.

This is the time when Prince Resort makes itself ready for the upcoming holiday season. We have a great location here, and we have a wonderful venue for everyone looking for beautiful and affordable lodging at the beach. The Prince is right here in North Myrtle Beach, where the Cherry Grove Pier meets the shore and joins with the front door of our resort, right here where the action begins for people wanting to spent some quiet time, wanting to get excited by the fall festivals and rallies, wanting to reconnect with their families and friends in reunions and weddings.

Prince invites everyone coming to the beaches of the Grande Strand, whether you stay here or not, to come to its restaurant 3500 Ocean Grill, a little known gem in Cherry Grove. Fabulous meals come out of its kitchen to your table which is perched in full view of the ocean.

With all of these and many more reasons to visit us, we look forward to seeing you here at Prince!

Your friends at Prince Resort!

Myrtle Beach Fall Biker Rally at the Prince Resort

Prince Resort is looking forward to the many autumn events here at the beach, especially the Myrtle Beach Bike Rally in early October. We welcome people from all across the country to come to the Strand for their fall bike "fest."

With a number of events being held all around Horry County this year, Prince is well located for attendees because they can go where they want to go, see all the bike rally sites, and still get away from it all to come to our relaxed beach location right here at the mouth of The Cherry Grove Pier. By the way, bikers, the Pier has a variety of fishing options, whether you hang out at the shore area or in the middle (serious fishing happens here) or at the end.

So, whether you fish or motor, your stay here in the Grand Strand will be a memorable one when you book accommodations at The Prince Resort! Not only can you get anywhere you want in the Strand by taking the nearby "fast lane" roads such as Highway 31 that skirt the Myrtle Beach area's higher traffic street, you can also meet and greet many other people with your similar interests!

The Prince Resort offers special rates for this Biker Rally, so be sure to call today at 866.503.9518 to get your reservation!

Giving Thanks - A Memorable Holiday at the Beach

Part of family tradition is reliving special events with loved ones, but who says that you have to spend the same holiday in the same place each year! Having Thanksgiving at the beach is a way to form new memories, renew family relationships, and not worry about doing so much work preparing/cooking/cleaning that you miss out on much of the fun!

The comfort and convenience of the Prince Resort would make a fabulous site for your family and friends this holiday 2008. Not only can you have an affordable condo with a water view, you can also enjoy a memorable feast prepared for you (what a luxury!) with all the trimmings! All you have to do is relax. Isn't this a holiday you have dreamed about!? No work, no fuss, no dishes!

Let us do the cooking! The Prince Resort's 3500 Ocean Grill has a choice of delicious and traditional Thanksgiving dishes planned by our expert chef, a meal certain to satisfy every appetite (click here for the menu).

Later, enjoy watching football on TV, chatting with family and friends while sitting near the ocean, relaxing by the pool, or just walking on the beach. On the day after Thanksgiving, settle further into the beach groove by going fishing on Cherry Grove Pier, checking out the area's many events and sights (many are free!), plus restaurants, shops, and gathering places. This is a great time to get a start on holiday shopping or to look for shells along the edge of the ocean.

So, this Thanksgiving, how about an affordable, fun, and memorable holiday. Book early and stay as long as you like.

Guest Comments

Prince Resort loves its guests, and we love hearing from guests. We are especially grateful and honored when they take the time to communicate their experiences at the Resort. Here are some of the more recent comments that might help you made a decision about coming to the beach:

I just returned from staying with you fro July 13th to July 17th. I found you online so I did not know what to expect. I do have two sons in Little River but my 86 year old mom wanted to stay on the beach. What a wonderful experience we had. Out condo was LOVELY and your staff is warm, loving and cordial. Every time we went out the back to the beach, your door man did not hesitate to open the door for us. I loved the fact that we were a very short distance from the beach as I had to get us all set up before I helped mom down to the beach. Our condo had everything we needed and our lovely maid everyday was so helpful with whatever we needed. We were in room 401 and how quiet we were at the end of the hall and not a thing missing that we might need. I was so glad to find a full refrigerator as I am a bad diabetic and I needed to freeze my unit to carry my insulin in. Both my sons will recommend you to people that want to stay on the beach. My other son is a manager of the Wal-Mart in Shallotte, NC and will also recommend you too. Please pass this good word to your wonderful staff. Good things are not sometimes passed on, only bad visits. WE look forward to staying again and I have already told my employees here at the office about our wonderful stay. Again, THANKS for our wonderful visit. Vivian Guice

We would like to say "Thank You" to the Prince Resort Staff. Our family stayed in a 3 Bedroom condo. The service from the Reservation Desk, our wonderful maid (Christine) to the Porters who took care of all our luggage was absolutely fabulous. Our condo was real roomy and Clean and we felt very much at home. All the staff was helpful and friendly, and with the help at the front desk our children pulled off a surprise birthday party for Mom!! We appreciated the clean elevators; it was nice to get in and not have to stand in sand and water. We enjoyed our stay at Prince Resort and plan to return; we will recommend this as the place to stay at Cherry Grove. We have always loved the Cherry Grove area and being close to the pier was a plus for the ones in our family who like to fish!! Thank you for making our family vacation such an enjoyable one; the friendly and helpful staff makes all the difference -- keep up the great work!! It was good to have a place in the area we like that was family oriented and met our needs. Email from the Brown Family from Randleman NC

Fun Facts

  • In the U.S. loggerhead sea turtles live principally on the southeast Atlantic coast and the Gulf coast. Almost 99% of the sea turtles nesting along the Carolina coast are loggerheads, but there are four other species, all endangered: Kemp's Ridley, hawksbill, green, and leatherback.

  • Named for their relatively large heads and blunt jaws built for chomping down on thick mollusk shells during feeding, loggerhead sea turtles grow to an average weight of 200 pounds. They nest from May through August, laying over 100 eggs in pits, covering them, and then leaving back to sea.

  • Highly migratory, loggerhead sea turtles can roam over 8,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean. Using their unique brand of navigation, they follow the current called the North Atlantic Gyre.

  • Loggerhead sea turtles live up to 50 years. However, they are also quite vulnerable with their highest death rate while they are still eggs in the nest. After that point, especially in their run from nest to ocean, their death rate is almost as high. In the end, only 1 in 1,000 survives to adulthood.

  • The average loggerhead turtle lays over 112 eggs in each nest, 3 to 7 nests per season and then never sees her offspring again. Usually only 80% of the eggs even hatch. They hatch after approximately 6 weeks.

  • The endangered loggerhead has a complex life cycle because of human exploitation, drowning in fishing nets, deterred by oceanfront developments, and killed by eating trash. Over 55,000 turtles die from drowning alone each year.

  • Loggerhead turtles can hold their breath under water for up to an hour.

  • Have you heard of "the bends," a condition of divers when they rise to the water's surface too quickly? Turtles explore depths quite often and yet do not suffer from "the bends" because their bodies change in to the different pressures by adjusting lung size. Once back at the surface, their lungs return to the original size, and the air in them is restored to its normal pressure.

  • The numbers of loggerhead turtles are being reduced by up to 80% per year worldwide.
