Little River Welcome Center at the NC/SC Border

It’s even near Vereen Memorial Gardens, a nature preserve on the Intracoastal Waterway with boardwalks and lots of exciting wildlife. Summer Festival at La Belle Amie

Jimmy Buffet-style beach and summer music are the theme for a vineyard summer festival. Two live bands, a vineyard tour, exotic frozen wine drinks, wine sampling, prizes, and lots of summertime fun will be on the agenda. This is a barbeque, so come hungry. Here are some words from our coastal environment:
• Backwash – the return of the seawater to the sea after waves break on shore
• Breakwater – off-shore coastal barricade to defend the shoreline from the onslaught of storms’ wrath and fury. Breakwaters absorb some of the raw power of the angry sea.
• Dredging – pulling up sand and other matter from the seabed to deepen certain areas.

Did you know that South Carolina’s rich history dates back to British rule? The Crown appointed Lord William Campbell, a British nobleman married to a South Carolina woman, as the state’s royal governor. He held the office for only a few months because he so upset wealthy plantation owners who supported the movement to break from England. A quick departure by boat saved his life.
