A Fishing Report

The North Myrtle Beach Online.com news reports most successful fishing is conducted off shore lately while the weather and the ocean are still cool. Charter captains rely on shrimp as bait but if not, a product called "Gulp Alive" works. While striper have not been biting, anglers can find reliable sea bass out at the reefs. Flounder will be catchable soon with some big ones caught already.

NMB Considers Transportation System

The City of N Myrtle Beach is considering starting a trolley system to ease congestion on Highway 17 and parking at the beach. Funding is still the question. With several options possible, local area businesses are also weighing in, requesting a new transportation system that would help locals commute as well as visitors getting to restaurants, shopping, and the beach. Once funding is in place, the system could be in place in 60 days.

Signs of Spring Along the Strand

Called "precocious" in the world of trees, the flowering magnolia blooms early to mid-spring in this area. They enjoy full sun to part shade, so look for them tucked around residential gardens and as showcase plants at places such as Brookgreen Gardens. You can't miss them because the flowers appear on bare stems, long before the leaves emerge. The genus of this species is named after the French botanist Pierre Magnol.
