Prince Resort now boasts a big box on the Front Desk where anyone can drop in non-perishable food times to donate to Horry County’s food banks. From now to January 15, canned and boxed food goods are being collected, a community-wide goal of 100 tons by January 15th. We can deliver it for you. For updates on this or the Extreme Home Make-Over for the community visit or call the United Way at 843.347.5195.

Over the years, New Year has become a national festival in many countries of the world such as India where it is approached with as much excitement and enthusiasm as found at Times Square in NYC. India punctuates its festivities with prayers and feasting, too, yet celebrates the event differently in various cities around the country, with the smaller cities tending toward a less energetic manner.

Wet weather occurs frequently during our winters. Start by having your car tires properly inflated. During sloppy conditions, avoid puddles. Drive slowly, especially on curves. Steer and brake with a light touch (pretend an egg lies just under your accelerator). When you need to stop or slow, start before you usually do, first by removing your foot from the accelerator. Avoid hard braking. In skidding, steer in the direction you want the front to go.

Start with water, a natural appetite suppressor. Drink 8 glasses daily. Then, substitute soup for one of your meals, preferably homemade soup. Graze in small meals, mostly early in the day when your body is revved up to burn calories. Add activity to your day, anything at all. Walk. Just add something. Then, balance what you eat. If you eat chocolate, balance with salad. Prince’s employee weight program resumes in 2010, so we’re with you!

The NorthMyrtleBeachOnline.com’s fishing report for December indicates that the surface water temperature is now 53.6° (source: the Caro-COOPS buoy out of Little River Inlet 3 miles off Sunset Beach). You can follow water temperature through http://carocoops.org/ which is moving shortly to http://carolinasrcoos.org/. Right now, keeper-sized sea bass, sea trout, red and black drum, and stripers are biting (flounder here and there), and live bait is out there for the catching!
